A perfect spring weekend in San Diego

From sunrise yoga at La Jolla Cove to fish tacos in Ocean Beach — the itinerary we send guests staying at the San Diego Bungalow.

San Diego in spring is the city at its absolute best — warm enough for the beach, cool enough to walk all day, and not yet flooded with summer crowds. Here's the weekend we send to every guest staying at the San Diego Bungalow.

Friday afternoon: arrive, drop your bags, and walk five minutes to the boardwalk for a glass of wine at sunset. The bungalow keeps a chilled bottle in the fridge for new arrivals — open it.

Saturday morning: 7 AM yoga at La Jolla Cove. The sea lions get loud around 8, so set an alarm. Coffee after at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters. Brunch at The Mission in Pacific Beach if you can wait — or grab a breakfast burrito at Konito's.

Saturday afternoon: rent a kayak from Everyday California, paddle the sea caves, then dry off at a beach bar in OB (Wonderland Ocean Pub is the move). Fish tacos at South Beach Bar & Grille at sunset.

Sunday: take it slow. Coffee on the patio, then up to Balboa Park for the museums and the Japanese Friendship Garden. If the weather's right, drive 30 minutes south to Coronado for one last beach walk before the flight home.
